Bending the Elments: Episode 0 - A Rambling Beginning
Thursday Mar 18, 2021
Thursday Mar 18, 2021
Hello Novice Elitists listeners! Here is a brief introductory episode to a brand new podcast by your two pair of buds. Long in the annuals of TNE history have your hosts said they would one day start an Avatar podcast. You didn't believe us, you called us liars, you spat on us in the streets, punched us in our guts, etc. But finally we're making good on all those promises! So follow us over on our new feed, which you can find here: https://tnebendingtheelements.podbean.com/
And forgive us for how slapped together it is at the moment.

The Wicker Man (1973) (TNE Speakeasy)
Monday Mar 15, 2021
Monday Mar 15, 2021
Returning after a hiatus from the realm of horror cinema, Caleb heads back to the bar and once again TNE co-host Isaac has found himself absent from his usual spot at the table. Due to extenuating circumstances that I'm not legally allowed to share, Mr. Isaac has been forced to go on the run--ugh, I mean, take a brief sabbatical for some quiet meditation. So Mr. Eric from The Best Picture Podcast has yet again joined the show, and this time to discuss something not Godzilla related! That's right folks, it's time to turn our eyes back to the 70s and what better year to look at than 1973, with a cult sleeper hit staring horror icon Christopher Lee!
"Oh Mr. Description, could you possibly be covering the last Christopher Lee Dracula film, The Satanic Rites of Dracula?! (1973)" No, damn you! We're covering Robin Hardy's masterpiece occult horror flick, The Wicker Man! Now shut up and watch the film!
This discussion was filmed in front of a live bar-side audience on Feb. 23rd, 2021.

Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) Commentary
Monday Mar 08, 2021
Monday Mar 08, 2021
Following up on our recent review of Darwyn Cooke's epic, DC: The New Frontier, we turn our eyes to the 2008 adaption of (mostly) the same name. Finally kicking off our series reviewing the DC animated films, we're starting with the second one they did in the DCAU. What will your hosts think of a film that condensed a 400 page book down to 75 minutes? Well, you might be able to guess, but tune in anyway, cause why not!

TNE Speakeasy: Bonus #10 (The Book Club ft. Johnny)
Monday Mar 01, 2021
Monday Mar 01, 2021
The TNE boys return to the bar, and frequent guest Johnny has come along with them to change the focus of conversation for this week's episode. Moving the discussion away from our usual film/comic book talk, we changed gears and took a look at some of our favorite books. We cover a wide array of books/authors, and discuss the potential of a new series here at The Novice Elitists' headquarters.
This episode was recorded on Jan. 31st, 2021.

DC: The New Frontier (Panel by Panel Discussion)
Monday Feb 22, 2021
Monday Feb 22, 2021
The boys from the NE return to the bar and they've brought along their Novice Elitists brand jackhammers and hard hats. That's right folks, your pair of buds are once again breaking new ground on the podcast as we try our first attempt at a comic book review!
Taking a panel by panel deep dive, we discuss Darwyn Cooke's superhero magnum opus, DC: The New Frontier.
The runtime got away from us on this one, but we couldn't be happier to finally dip our toes into the wider world of comic book coverage. So keep an eye out for more comic book reviews in the future. (probably at shorter runtimes) 🤟
This episode was recorded on Feb. 7th, 2021.

TNE Speakeasy: Bonus #9 (Chatting DC & Marvel ft. Jason)
Monday Feb 15, 2021
Monday Feb 15, 2021
Continuing to pull some recordings from the TNE archives, we come to some of the pre-recorded material from our very first recording session with friend of the show Jason. In order to loosen up for our dive into Superman: In Brightest Day, the boys took a walk down the road to the TNE speakeasy, and tossed back a couple of drinks as they had a rousing discussion centered on the film and television iterations of The Big Two. It's a laid back kind of show, so come pop it on and settle in with your boys from the NE.
P.S. You might notice a distinct absence of Mr. Caleb for most of the episode--Those pesky covid inspectors showed up again to make sure we were keeping to covid regulations. And he had to bribe them with booze to keep'em quie--uh, I mean, give them the grand tour to confirm that everything was done illegally--fuck! I meant legally! Jeez, better quit while I'm ahead.

TNE Speakeasy: Bonus #5 (A Trip Down Memory Lane via Lego Mags and Galidor)
Friday Feb 12, 2021
Friday Feb 12, 2021
Things are getting funky on the TNE feed timeline. Due to some mixed up release schedules, two of our past Speakeasy shows got lost in the shuffle and never saw the light of day--Until now! This episode was a jumble of two extended stingers that ended up being too long for their episodes, and have been collected here for your listening pleasure. The latter half of the show includes an impromptu commentary on the first episode of the series Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension. (One you should definitely watch along with your hosts, as a lot of it is just watching the episode). Bonus episode 4 should be out next week, but until then, enjoy the show, and write in if you remember any of the shows we mention on our nostalgia jag.
This episode was recorded on two separate occasions--Dec. 13/Dec 16, 2020.

The boys from the NE return to the bar yet again, and once more they've brought some guests along with them! Our first ever guest Aaron marks his return to the show, and this time his brother Zach has come along as well. (Although due to unforeseen road fissures opening up along his commute, he doesn't show up until about 25 minutes into the show)
But unlike the normal Novice Elitists episodes, this time we waded away from our usual film/comic/video game talk, and instead turned our conversation more towards the philosophical. We discuss a bit about our thoughts on the afterlife, religion, and even some global politics. So if that kind of stuff is not to your fancy, stay tuned for our upcoming commentary on Godzilla (1998). But if you enjoy our usual content, why not come along for the ride and share a few drinks.

Superman: In Brightest Day (1999) Commentary
Tuesday Feb 02, 2021
Tuesday Feb 02, 2021
The Novice Elitists return from a long hiatus from the realm of DC related content, as well as a long break from covering suggested picks by friend of the show Jason. But have no fear dear listener, not only are we back on the train of covering both of those things, but we're also furthering the trend of bringing new guests on the podcast, and this time it's Jason himself! That's right folks, the three of us are covering the inaugural appearance of a Green Lantern in the Bruce Timm universe of animated DC content. What will your hosts think of the show?! Find out now!
